Virginia Rainey, one of Utah's best writers, included my UofU tarot class in her piece about learning and inspiration in the current issue of Park City Magazine.. I was bowled over by the kind words she wrote and so of course have to broadcast them. This is no big difficulty though as I always enjoy reading her articles, and so this one is just a special treat for me. Thanks so much Virginia.

Continuing education is a source of inspiration.
As a writer, I get to learn something
new with every assignment. But some-
times I get burned out. So this past
winter, I found a class in the University
of
catalog that had nothing to do with my
regular beat. My attendance in psychic
Margaret Ruth’s Reading the Tarot class
must have been written in the cards.
A psychic and intuition expert, Ruth
balanced informality and humor in
teaching a group of nine students. She
had every single one of us reading tarot
by the end of the first three-hour class,
and I was amazed at the insights: one
person even divined that her friend was
switching careers. I won’t be switching
careers to fortune telling soon, but the
class did spur me back to writing with a
renewed energy and dedication.
The potential for inspiration from
Lifelong Learning comes in many
forms, from the usual arts, cooking and
music to How to Raise Backyard Chick-
ens, or Scotch for the Sophisticate. In
between, you’ll discover rock climbing,
children’s book illustration and a class
on
are held at sites around
but there are a few right here in Park
City. The
(PCSD) also offers community educa-
tion classes, with this year’s spring
choices including Chakra Journey,
of Bridge, as well as courses in knitting,
CPR, computer basics and more. PCSD
also offers hundreds of courses online.
Take it from me: these classes can
help refresh your outlook. My tarot class
may not have taught me how to foretell
the future, but I can say that it has en-
